About Captiva Island
The barrier islands of Sanibel and Captiva connect to the mainland and the city of Fort Myers by a three-mile causeway. The world-renowned islands stretch for a total of 20 miles along the beautiful turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Created by nature to protect the mainland, the highly sought-after palm tree and flower-lined islands are famous for their pristine beauty, unspoiled beaches and the incredible variety of shells that wash up on their shores.
Captiva Island is a Southwest Florida treasure with fewer than 400 permanent residents. Originally part of neighboring Sanibel Island to the southeast, it was detached in 1926 when a hurricane’s storm surge created a new channel, Blind Pass. The only automobile access to Captiva is from Sanibel via the Sanibel Causeway and Sanibel-Captiva Road.
Although Captiva is only six miles long and very narrow, totaling just one square mile, it is the gateway to luxury living. There are no traffic lights, and the preferred mode of transportation on the island is by bicycle, golf cart or boat.
Captiva’s famed “Gold Coast” is home to many of the finest estates in Southwest Florida. This neighborhood is located along Captiva Drive at the southern end of the island.
